The Gardening Thread
« on: May 12, 2014, 11:21:35 AM »
Everyone in our Free Company is entitled to grow and use the two plots of garden that our FC house and you're welcome to make an alt to garden at the Znites house!

We will operate on a waiting list system. If you want on to the list, post in the thread. Whenever a set of crops are done growing, the person currently using the zone vacates the zone and lets the next person on the list in, and may relist themselves at the bottom to wait for their next turn. Thus, everyone has fair and easy access to the gardening system, and there is no need to factor time into the system.

DO:
Tend others' crops. Fertilize only if their fertilizer is listed.

DON'T:
Harvest others' crops.

I'm picking our personal houses should have their own plots. ATM though we're stuck with what we have. :(

On a side note. I'll probably just drop random gil in the Chest anyway. I tend to buy things that I could make myself because lazy. If I have no gil then I'll be forced to level up those pesky crafts as well. yay logic.

Also: are there any seeds or soils I should be looking for in particular while I'm out doing gathery things?

I haven't done any excessive research Bane, but I think Thanalan Topsoil is the one that helps for crossbreeding, which is what we want. The higher grade the better. As for seeds, much less clear - there isn't much in the way of definitive information yet so just gather anything you can and bung it in the chest.

Coolies. I may be a terrible raider, but I am excessively good at sitting down and doing boring repetitive things for hours at a time  :)

Can we plant stuff for personal gain? because i reallyyy want a Glazenut so i can get that weaver cushion pet
And yea the only reason we have a 6plot thingy is because it was already in the chest so i thought "hey what the hell!" didn't realize there was a restriction on them but makes sense.

I think there is a distinction to be drawn between working for gil profit (which is driving my own glazenut hunt) and working for an item. Personally, I'm okay with farming entirely for personal gain as long as you aren't doing it for the gil, but I welcome other input on that.

They are a functional asset that can be used by everyone and only be used in an FC house. It seems a waste not to have them.

Gonna hold off planting for 24hrs so that people have a chance to see this and comment.

Raquel has pitched that we could do 2x 8 plot zones (ie a whole farm) instead of splitting them and losing grow space. We might switch to this model if demand for gardening is low - we shall see.

If there are no other names on the list by Wednesday, I'm going to upgrade Bizz and I to a full garden each until someone expresses some interest  :colbert:

So much hoopla about make gardening simple and accessible, and then nobody actually wants to dive in immediately  :rek:

Since nobody else has registered interest, I'm assigning Bizz and I a whole garden each, until such a time as someone else wants to use some space  :rek:

Updated OP. There are still only three of us in rotation, so I'll keep assigning whole gardens for now.

The path on the heights is paved with Glazenuts.

Prickly Pineapple + Rolanberry = Apricot
Honey Lemon + Apricot = Royal Kukuru
Royal Kukuru + Apricot = Glazenut

These three crosses are the most efficient path. You can cross to get your Honey Lemon seeds if you want, but I just buy them, they aren't too expensive. Keep in mind that to get enough apricot kernals you'll probably need to do multiple PP + RB crops, since apricots are needed at both later steps.

Requesting a patch for when the patch drops so I can grow chocobo things! Or rather, Wales grow me chocobo things, I'll give you supplies and I bet they'll sell insanely to start off with as well.

Given that I'm on the cusp for being AFG for two weeks plus, I think you can do your own damn gardening.  :colbert:

It is, good sir, we will ask the current users of the plots and when they'll be finished.
What will you be growing? Just curious.
