Gathering - The Path to Mastery

After getting to level 50 crafting there are 3 steps you need to do to master a crafting job.
Then you'll need to do one more quest you need to do:


Just Tooling Around


You'll then be able to i70 equipment for your gathering job.


1st Step you need to max meld your equipment.
I found that this is the best way to meld, this is base on the fact that you rely on high tier materia to safe money on lost materia. This is the step that cost a lot of money since you can lose 100+k on overmelding.
For head you'll want to aim to get Forager's Hat which can be used for all gathering jobs.
However you'll need to meld your head gear at least once.


Best is to meld to 600gp so you can use:
Toil of the Pioneer/Mountaineer - Renders all out-of-reach items reachable.
Leaf Turn II/Mountaineer & Unearth II - Increases the chance of obtaining HQ items while gathering by 30%.


Toil of the Pioneer/Mountaineer - Renders all out-of-reach items reachable.
Solid Reason/Ageless Words - Grants another gathering attempt
Brunt Force/Deep Vigor - Increases the chance of obtaining regular or HQ items to 100% after chain #4.


Gathering Requirement
To gather 1 star item requires 370 Gathering, 332 Perception
To gather 2 stars item  requires 408 Gathering, 389 Perception

Note if you're trying to fish Silver Sovereign you'll need some help from food or company action, pure melding is not sufficient and only yield NQ for me.


2nd Gathering Material
a.  Gather material to trade for i70 item


        Fragrant Log
           Area: South Shroud - Upper Paths (16x 23y)
           Time: 2 a.m. - 5 a.m. (Eorzea Time)
           Gathering: 370 minimum
           Perception: 332 minimum (1%)


        Umbral Rock
           Area: South Shroud - Near Camp Tranquil
           Time: 6 a.m. - 9 a.m. (Eorzea Time)
           Gathering: 370 minimum
           Perception: 332 minimum (1%)


        Silver Sovereign
           Area: Lower La Noscea - La Noscea (24-39) Oschon's Torch
           Lure: HQ Yumizuno
           Time: Best at 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. Eorzea Time)
           Gathering: 300 minimum
           Perception: 260 minimum (the higher the better)






b.  Decide your rotation
     There's two ways to do this one is to get your chances as high as possible and prey RNG is good for you.
     The other which is the method I've used is:  (This method requires 500gp)
       1. Increases the chance of obtaining items while gathering by 5%. (Which brings gathering to 100%)
       2. Increases the chance of obtaining HQ items while gathering by 10%.
       3. Obtain item once
       4. Grants another gathering attempt.
       5. After chain 4 use, Increases the chance of obtaining regular or HQ items to 100%.
    This method will give you at least 1 HQ / cycle


c.  Useful tool to tract Eorzea's time
     You'll have to wait approximately 1hr earth time before another attempt.

3rd Obtain Forager's Gear
For Forager's Hat, you'll need:
30 HQ Fragrant Log
30 HQ Umbral Rock
10 HQ Silver Sovereign


For i70 AF2 weapon:

Forager's Hatchet	60 HQ Fragrant Log
Forager's Dolabra	60 HQ Umbral Rock
Forager's Fishing Rod	20 HQ Silver Sovereign
