So I had this really really embarassing death in T5. I healed the tank during snakes, dive bombs happened, but my character didn't flip back to face the camera so when I strafed left it went right instead.. into the fire. Feel free to laugh, I sure did.
And I don't make the same mistake twice, especially something that stupid, and figured there had to be a solution to this ridiculous behaviour. And there is a few.
1) Make sure your character turns back by wiggling the camera2) Positioning yourself behind the tankBut that requires you to compensate.
There's also these:
3) Legacy control system in character configuration where it's camera based rather than character based4) Auto face target when using actions in character configuration#3 changes the entire movement of your character and I don't like how it moves when selected, it would solve it but no thanks.
So there's also #4 - When you play healer you can prevent it auto facing the target you use actions on because heals do not require you to face your target. SE should give an independant option for spells that don't require you to face the target. But they dont/wont.
And I didn't think changing it every time I change class is a good idea coz I play all 3 roles and there will inevitably be a time where I go into a duty and forget. Not to mention a waste of time.
------- SOLUTION --------Make a macro and setup a small hotbar (you can scale up/down UI elements with ctrl + home when in HUD Layout). Use your macros to change your class. You can actually macro changing gear sets. For my scholar it is gear set 1 so:
/gs change 1
That switches be to scholar.
Then there's actually a command to toggle auto facing your target.
/autofacetarget
But that toggles it, so do this instead for scholar:
/autofacetarget off
For tank/dps:
/autofacetarget on
And the final macro for a healer looks like:
/gs change 1
/autofacetarget off
Change 1 with the number of your healer's gear set. Change 'off' to 'on' for dps/tank. The ONE and only downside is when you dps as a healer it will no longer face your target, but that's nothing compared to the trouble it can save you.
Now when you heal it will no longer face your target and fuck your character's orientation meaning when you strafe it wont run the wrong way.
This is my hotbar. 0 is toggle on 1 is toggle off - just in case.
